Answer ALL questions.
PART A - (10 x 2 = 20 marks)
1. Distinguish between a loop and a mesh of a dc circuit.
2. If two resistors are connected in series the total resistance is 9 ohms and in parallel the total resistance is 2 ohms ,find out the unknown resistors?
3. Write back emf equation of the dc motor.
4. What is meant by ideal transformer?
5. What are the advantages of a zener diode ?
6. What are the bias conditions of the base-emitter and base-collector junction for a transistor to operate as an amplifier?
7. Convert the binary fraction 0.101 into decimal equivalent.
8. Draw the symbol for NOR & AND gates and write its truth tables.
9. Define modulation. What are the different types of modulation?
10. Define the term modulation index for frequency modulation.
PART B — (5 x16 = 80 marks)
11. (a) (i) Using mesh method find current through 15 ohm resistor of fig. 1. (8)
(ii) A series circuit of R=10 ohm and Xc= 15 ohm has an applied Voltage is 250v .Find real power, powerfactor, Impedance and current value (8)
Or
(b) (i) Three impedances of 10 + j12 ohm are connected in delta to a threephase, three wire, 350 volts RYB system. Find the line currents. (8)
(ii) With a neat sketch explain the working of single phase energymeter (8)
12. (a) (i) A dc shunt generator supplies a load of 7.5 kW at 200V. Calculate the induced emf if armature resistance is 0.8ohm and field resistance is 90 o h m (8)
(ii) Derive back /counter emf equation of a dc motor . (8)

(b) (i) Explain the principle of operation of a single phase transformer. (8)
(ii) With a neat sketch explain the working of single phase induction motor .(8)
13. (a) (i) Explain the working of PN diode in forward bias condition. (6)
(ii) Draw the circuit diagram for h a l f & full-wave rectifier and explain its working and also find out efficiency .(10 )

(b) (i) What are the different terminals in a transistor? Draw the symbol of PNP transistor and explain its working.(8)
