    PART – A                           (10 x 2 = 20)
Answer All the Questions

1.     Determine the resultant of the three forces F1 = 2.3i + 3.3j – 4.6k; F2 = -3i + 5.2j – 2.5k; and F3 = 8.8i – 6.6j + 5.5k, which are concurrent at the point (3, 4, -5). The forces are in Newton and the distances are in metres.

2.     Distinguish between a particle and a rigid body.

3.     Locate the centroid of a semicircle.

4.     State – Routh’s rule.

5.     State the Coulomb’s laws of dry friction.

6.     A belt embraces an angle of 180° over the surface f a pulley of 500mm diameter. If the tight side tension of the belt is 2 kN. Find out the slack side tension of the belt. The coefficient of friction between the belt and the pulley can be taken as 0.3.

7.     State Newton’s second law of motion.

8.     Define – Uniform accelerated motion.

9.     Define the term ‘coefficient of restitution’ of two bodies under impact.

10.   Define general plane method.

PART – B                       (5 x 12 = 60)
Answer All the Questions
11.   Forces 32 kN, 24kN, 24kN, and 120 kN are concurrent at origin and are respectively directed through the points whose coordinates are A (2, 1, 6), B(4, -2, 5); C(-3, -2, 1) and D(5, 1, -2). Determine the resultant of the system.
