4.     What are the advantages and disadvantages of optical fiber as a transmission medium?

5.     Briefly explain about the sliding window flow control.

6.     Compare the mechanism of space division switch and time division switch.

7.     Name the X.25 frame type and their primary functions.

8.     Why is padding necessary for ATM cells?

15.   Describe the analog hierarchies in which group of signals are successively multiplexed onto higher bandwidth lines.

16.   (a) Briefly mention  different features of SMDS.                     (7)
(b) Explain circuit switching.  Compare it with packet     switching.                                                                                (5)

17.   (a) Contrast the three categories of services provided by ISDN.  Compare the three B-ISDN access methods.                           (8)
        (b) Explain how are flow and error control handled by X.25?(4)

18.   Explain in detail about the Asynchronous Transfer Mode and its layer.

19.   Why do you need routing protocols? Explain the operation of any two routing algorithms.

20.   Explain the concept and component of simple network management  protocol (SNMP).
