PART - A                (10 X 2 = 20)
Answer ALL the Questions
1.     State the Kirchhoff’s laws.

2.     Write down the voltage division and current division rule.

3.     Define flux and reluctance.

4.     Compare Electric circuits and Magnetic circuits.

5.     Define RMS and Average value.

6.     Explain the term Phase difference.

7.     What is meant by Deflecting Torque and Control Torque?

8.     Write the working principle of Megger.

9.     Write the requirements of an Insulator.

10.   Give an account of different wiring material used.


PART – B                       (5 x 12 = 60)
Answer All the Questions

11.   An electrical network is arranged as shown in fig.1. Find (a) the current in branch AF (b) the power absorbed in branch BE and (b) P.D across branch CD.

12.   Using Mesh current analysis, find the current through the galvanometer G in the wheatstone bridge shown in fig.2

       
       
13.   State Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction. Explain about Statically  and Dynamically induced EMF.

14.   A toroid with a circular cross section of radius 20mm has a mean length of 280mm and a flux j = 1.5mwb. Find the mmf required if for the silicon steel core mr = 1000. Find the mmf required to establish the same flux, if there is an air gap of 1mm thickness of in the core of the toroid.

15.   A coil of resistance 10 ohms and inductance 0.1H is connected in series with a capacitor of 150 mF across 200V, 50Hz supply. Calculate (a) Inductive  reactance, Capacitive reactance, impedance, current, and power factor and (b) the voltage across the coil and capacitor respectively.

16.   Draw and explain the measurement of 3 phase power by two wattmeter method.

17.   Draw and Explain the construction and working of Permanent magnet Moving coil instrument.

18.   Draw and explain the construction and working of induction type energy meter.

19.   Describe about (a) Pin type insulator (b) Suspension type insulator (c) Strain insulator.

20.   Draw and explain the single line diagram of transmission and distribution system.
