POWER PLANT ENGINEERING
(2003 Course)
Time : 3 Hours Max. Marks : 100
Instructions : 1) Answer any 3 questions from each Section.
2) Answers to the two Sections should be written in
separate books.
3) Neat diagrams must be drawn wherever necessary.
4) Black figures to the right indicate full marks.
5) Use of logarithmic tables, slide rule, Mollier charts,
electronic pocket calculator and steam tables is
allowed.
6) Assume suitable data, if necessary.
SECTION – I
UNIT – I
1. a) Explain Rankine cycle with T-S diagram. 4
b) State the advantages of Reheat cycle. 4
c) A steam power plant operates on Rankine cycle. Steam entering the turbine
has a pressure of 50 bar and temp. of 500°C; expands to a condenser pressure
of 0.05 bar. Find :
i) Heat supplied
ii) Turbine work
iii) Pump work
iv) Dryness function of steam entering the condenser
v) Rankine cycle efficiency. 10
