1. a) Define and explain the terms thermodynamic. State, process and cycle.
b) State and explain Zeroth law of thermodynamics.
c) Sketch and explain briefly about working principle of 4-stroke petrol engine.
d) Sketch and explain briefly about working ofpelton turbine.
e) Differentiate between water tube and fire tube boilers.
0 Define the terms - relative humidity, humidity ratio, dry bulb temperature, wet
bulb temperature and dew point temperature.
g) Write a note on extrusion.
h) Srhat are different types of grinding machines ?.
2, a)The properties of certain fluid are related as follows :

ii) A system composed of two kg of the above fluid expands in a frictionless
friction and cylinder machine from an initial state of 1 MPa, 100oC to a final

3. a) In an air standard diesel cycle, the compression ratio is 16, and at the beginning
of isentropic compression the temperature is 15oC and pressure is 0.1 MPa.
Heat is added until the temperature is 1480oC. Calculate
i) temperature and pressure at all the salient points
ii) The cut-off ratio
iii) Heat supplied per kg of air
iv) Heat rejected per kg of air
v) The Cycle efficiency.

4. a) List various boiler mountings and accessories. Also mention their location
