2. Describe the use of File and Record locking. And explain how to implement them. 10
3. What are message queues ? How they differ from pipes ? 10
4. What are pipes ? What happens when a pipe system is called ? Explain how they
are different from ordinary files. (2+4+4)
5. What are the phases in signaling process ? Explain what is meant by the lifetime
of a signal. (4+6)
6. What is shared memory ? What is the importance of it ? Explain in detail about
the process of “Allocating a shared memory segment”. (3+2+5)
