Paper-EEG-07
(Understanding Drama)
Time allowed : Three hours
Maximum marks : 70
Five questions to be attempted in all.
Question No. 1 is compulsory.
1. Explain with reference to the context any four of the
following :
(a) If you want to be a lady, your present behaviour to
me won't do at all unless we're alone. It's too sharp
and impudent; and impudence is a sort of
familiarity; it shows affection for me. 4½
(b) Gentlemen, the case is natural. The law of
conservation of energy proves that any given pupil
will lose, in any given period, as much knowledge
as a teacher can drill into his head in another period
of like duration. 4½
(c) Tell you about it ? Look here, I was a man once.
I'am a beast now, they made me what I am. They
chained me up like a wild animal, they lashed me
like a hound. I fed on filth, I was covered with
vermin. 4½
(d) Without work I couldn't live. All my life I have
worked, for as long as I can remember; that has
always been my one great joy. But now I'am
completely alone in the world, and feeling horribly
empty and forlorn. 4½
(e) Oh ! 'tisn't for want of being sociable. But my work
don't go with it. Not if 't was ever so little. I've got
to keep a cool head, a steady eye and a still hand.
The fly wheel might gobble me up. 4½
(f) I was never more serious in my life. Treat me
wrong here and I'll go straight to the Ministry of
Education and complain about you ! You took my
money, and you taught me nothing. 4½
2. Describe the dramatic value of Persome in the play 'The
Bishop of Candlesticks'. 13
3. Justify 'Arms and the Man' as an anti-romantic
comedy. 13
4. Write a critical note on the supernatural role in the play
'Macbeth'. 13
5. Discuss the character of Wasserkopt. 13
6. Comment on the dramatic irony in the play 'A Doll's
