DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES
(Civil Engineering)

Use of IS 456:2000 & relevant sheets (pertaining to columns) of SP16 code books are permitted. Assume any missing data.
PART – A (Answer any one question: 01 X 28 = 28 Marks)
1 Design a circular column with ties to carry an ultimate load of 2500 kN. The unsupported length of the column is 3 m. The ends of the column are effectively held in position but not against rotation. The grade of concrete and steel are M20 and Fe415 respectively. Draw the cross-section and elevation showing the reinforcement details.
OR
2 Design a reinforced concrete slab for a room of clear dimension 6 m x 8 m. The slab is supported on walls of width 300 mm. The slab is carrying a live load of 6 kN/m2 and floor finish is 1 kN/m2. Use M30 concrete and Fe415 steel. The corners of the slab are held down. Sketch the layout of the reinforcement.
